Fire: A Poem

A knock on the door

My breath catches

I’m expecting you

A turn of the knob

Flicker

No words needed

You scratch your nape

A forced chuckle

I murmur a hello

Spark

You take a seat

Forearms on your knees

My gaze meets your blues

A dimple, a leer

Glow

I sit with you

And you lean in

Your lips tremble

Then they meet mine

Ignite

And everything stops

Only to be set ablaze

Burning

Scorching

Smoldering

The kiss is over

The world is moving now

Our thoughts entwined

Our moment done

Extinguish
